We circumnavigated the Big Island, then Kauai, back to back, one week on each island.  On the Big Island we stayed in a different place each night along the way.  We experienced a major event every day, including altitude sickness, Mauna Kea star-gazing, saving someone’s life, arriving at our very remote rental home only to find a non-English speaking tourist asleep in it, being one toe-hold from being swept out to sea by a rain swollen river, finding blood all over our car left by an extremely drunk completely naked girl, standing alone on a lava cliff as a pod of dolphins swims & jumps past only feet away, a doors-off helicopter tour of Kauai with 1/4 of my body hanging out of the helicopter, snorkeling & hiking the Na Pali coast, and dealing with drug dealers and tourists trying to kill the wild chickens found there.  For us, Hawaii was extremely intense every day, but too we were very active and took risks.  Our trip was anything but relaxing.
